The iPhone 16e, Apple’s latest smartphone in the iPhone 16 series, replaces the iPhone SE as expected. The iPhone SE successor comes with a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display with a notch for Face ID, which uses a TrueDepth camera system to replace Touch ID. There is no iPhone SE anymore – the rumours were true.

Design & Display:

The new iPhone 16e looks identical to the iPhone 14 with the broader notch on the front. The new iPhone 16e will sport a smaller 6.1-inch OLED display. A new hardware button has been added to Apple’s iPhone 16 line. It’s true; the company that removes buttons and ports has added some back in the last two years.

On the back, the new iPhone 16e will feature a single camera with a glossy glass back. The new Camera Control button, which has a capacitive area, allows you to zoom in and out quickly and easily. Additionally, the Action Button, exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro, is now available on the non-Pro iPhone 16. Its aluminium chassis resembles that of an iPhone 5, giving it a premium look and feel.

The new iPhone 16e will feature a new Super Retina XDR display with a resolution of 2556x1179p and tougher protection on top of Corning’s latest Victus glass with Ceramic Sheild. It also feature Dolby Vision and HDR 10 support.

Processor:

The new iPhone 16e is powered by the world’s fastest Apple A18 SoC, which is built on the TSMC 3nm process and offers great performance.

The new Apple A18 chip features a six-core CPU, five-core GPU, and sixteen-core Neural Engine for faster artificial intelligence performance. It also has a new memory subsystem to speed up data traffic. Apple says the A18 chip performs 30% better than iPhone 15 with the A16 Bionic chip.

Apple Intelligence:

New Apple Intelligence features will be rolled out gradually over time, including Genmoji and Image Playgrounds image generation, automatic notification priority, and next-generation Siri. In addition, Apple Intelligence will support more languages, starting with American English, more English dialects in December, and more languages next year.

Camera:

The iPhone 16e will have single rear cameras with a 48MP Wide primary sensor, f/1.6 aperture, OIS, and LED flash. The device will also get Deep Fusion, Smart HDR 4, and improved Night Mode—the iPhone 16e ships with 12MP f/2.2 aperture selfie cameras with FaceID support.

Connectivity & Battery:

The connectivity options include 5G, Wi-Fi 6e, Bluetooth 5.3, A-GPS, GLONASS, NFC, USB Type-C port, and Dual SIM with 5G support. Apple will not include the charger and earphones along with the new iPhone 16 series.  It comes with 20W fast charge support. It runs on iOS 18 out of the box.
