The 2025 iPhone lineup has the potential to be Apple’s most exciting yet, with an emphasis on innovation and design. In terms of design, the iPhone 17 Air is remarkably thin and breaks new ground in smartphone technology.
The iPhone 17 Air’s slim profile has been the subject of conflicting reports in the past. Due to battery constraints, some speculated it might not meet initial expectations as it would be remarkably thin.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has clarified that the device will indeed be substantially thinner at around 2mm slimmer than the iPhone 16 Pro. Apple’s iPhone 17 Air, which is expected to measure 6.25mm thick, could dethrone the iPhone 6, which currently holds the title of Apple’s thinnest phone at 6.9mm.
The dramatic reduction in thickness is attributed to Apple’s custom 5G modem chip, which is smaller and more integrated than previous generations. The chip’s architecture has been refined and internal components optimized, freeing up valuable space within the device.
Additionally, the iPhone 17 Air will feature a 6.6-inch display, bridging the gap between the iPhone 17 Pro’s 6.3-inch screen and the iPhone 17 Pro Max’s 6.9-inch display. Users who want more screen real estate without the bulk of a Pro Max will find this new size to be a good middle ground.
It is expected that the iPhone 17 Air will feature significant upgrades in terms of display, performance, and camera. With ProMotion technology, it will have a 120Hz refresh rate, an upgraded 48MP camera sensor, and a 24MP front camera.
Samsung is also expected to launch its first slim flagship smartphone with an advanced camera.
