Android 16 will launch earlier than usual, as Google confirmed in September. As a result, the Pixel 9 launched two months earlier this year, and the Pixel 9a will launch two months earlier next year. The source have now revealed the exact date on which Android 16 will be pushed to AOSP and OTA to Pixel devices.
June 3 is the date. With Android 16, the OTA rollout will begin on the same day that it hits AOSP. Compared to usual, the Pixel OTA is 2 to 3 months ahead of schedule. Due to the fact that Android 15 was not released until October 15.
Google announced last week that this early launch will allow them to get it on new partner devices for fall. Launching in June means that devices coming in July, August, and September should launch with Android 16. Later in the year, Google can release another, smaller update. AI is the reason for going back to point updates. For developers and OEMs to be able to take advantage of new AI features faster, Google wants to push out changes faster.
Android 16 won’t launch at the same time as Pixel 10, so there should be fewer bugs at launch if Android 16 launches in June. Most Android versions launch at the same time as its flagship Pixel phones, so the phones are buggy. The Android 15 and Pixel 9 were a huge change this year, making the phones more stable and less prone to crashes. Next year will be interesting to watch.
