Apple is making strides to enhance its virtual assistant, Siri. Although an upcoming iOS 18 update will enable Siri to interpret on-screen information, it still falls short compared to rivals such as Gemini and ChatGPT. However, there’s potential for significant improvements in future updates, possibly iOS 19, where Siri might be upgraded to include more sophisticated large language models (LLMs). Unfortunately, users will need to wait for this enhancement.

Apple is reportedly working on an advanced version of Siri, termed “LLM Siri,” with a possible launch in Spring 2026 alongside iOS 19, as per Bloomberg. An announcement could come as early as the WWDC in June 2025.

While iOS 18 will incorporate ChatGPT, Siri has not kept pace when operating independently. The upcoming LLM integration aims to endow Siri with more human-like conversational skills, potentially diminishing Apple’s reliance on third-party AI providers like OpenAI.

This enhanced Siri is expected to take advantage of iOS 18’s App Intents feature, allowing for complex task execution in both first- and third-party apps via natural language commands. Additionally, this version of Siri might integrate seamlessly with other Apple Intelligence features like text generation and editing tools, broadening its functionality within the Apple ecosystem.

According to the report, Apple is evaluating “LLM Siri” through a separate application. However, when it rolls out with iOS 19 and macOS 16, this advanced capability will seamlessly merge into the traditional Siri experience. This implies that while Siri’s capabilities will be enhanced, the interaction methods for users will remain unchanged, lacking new features like the ability to browse through previous queries or engage with Siri in novel ways.
