According to industry insiders in Korea, Samsung could launch a tri-fold smartphone in 2025. The company has the technology, and the supply chain is ready. However, the final decision for foldable phones must come from the MX (Mobile eXperience) Division.
As Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold6 and Galaxy Z Flip6 failed to meet expectations, orders for foldable OLED panels decreased by over 10%.
A 40% drop from the 20 million foldable OLED panels Samsung Display shipped last year will result in 12 million shipments in 2024. In addition, Samsung supplies screens for other companies, such as Xiaomi, Vivo, and Oppo, that rely on it as a supplier.
Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold6 and Galaxy Z Flip6 are responsible for about 8 million sales, down from 10 million forecasted. All devices, old and new, have a declining sales trend. According to the report, Samsung may try to counter that with a cheaper Galaxy Flip, making the form factor more accessible.
No Cheaper Galaxy Z Fold6 FE:
Samsung announced its Z Fold Special Edition yesterday, a beefed-up version of its Z Fold6 with larger screens and a sleeker profile.
Samsung has been rumoured to launch a more affordable book-style foldable device for months, but it appears the company doesn’t plan to do so. According to a new Sammobile report, Samsung has no intention of launching a cheaper Galaxy Z Fold device.
The fact that Samsung thought about releasing a cheaper Z Fold is not meant to imply that it didn’t. It was reported earlier this year that Samsung had postponed its alleged Z Fold6 FE launch.
According to reports, Samsung’s early Z Fold6 FE production run ended in unsatisfactory results – the S Pen-compatible test devices were not substantially thinner or lighter than competing Chinese foldables. Due to a combination of the factors listed above and market uncertainties, Samsung eventually caved. Currently, a cheaper Galaxy Z Fold appears unlikely.
