The Korean company has been trying for years to become a strong competitor to Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC). Samsung Foundry’s Exynos processors have historically been criticized for their poor performance and efficiency compared to Snapdragon alternatives. With its newest phones, the company may have to abandon Exynos entirely.

The tipster behind this report is Revegnus, though the account has changed names. Due to Samsung’s difficulty achieving acceptable yield rates for its chips, the entire upcoming Galaxy S25 lineup is expected to use Snapdragon chips.

Samsung Foundry has been plagued by yield issues for years. It means that the company can’t make enough good chips that won’t need to be discarded. For a very poor result, the costs are simply too high.

To improve its chip manufacturing, Samsung recently recalled employees from its Taylor, Texas plant. By 2027, the company plans to start using 1.4 nm chips.

As reported by Revegnus and Ming-Chi Kuo, Samsung plans to integrate its latest Exynos chips into phones following the S25. Since the Galaxy S24 FE was just released today, the Galaxy S25 FE is quite a while off.

Exynos has taken a beating for so long that it’s probably nothing new to them. As a result, Apple has begun developing its cellular modems to replace Qualcomm.
