Apple is looking to replace the Plus lineup with something more exciting after declining iPhone Plus sales over the years. Those are the rumours this year, at least. The iPhone 17 Slim is rumoured to be even more expensive than the Pro Max series.
According to DigiTimes, the upcoming iPhone 17 Slim will feature an OLED display that allows for a very thin design. Taiwanese brand Novatek recently introduced a new TDDI OLED panel that combines the touch sensor layer with the display driver. It’s called TDDI, which stands for Touch and Display Driver Integration.
Even though it may not sound like a groundbreaking technology, it may prove vital to reducing smartphone thickness.
According to DigiTimes, Novatek is likely to supply Apple with OLED panels next year for its iPhone 17 Slim, although the company does not have a formal agreement in place. The news outlet speculates that Apple might test the new technology on other devices before introducing it to its iPhones. Apple Watches or iPads may get TDDI OLEDs before iPhones.
You should keep in mind that rumours are wild right now, so the Slim might turn out entirely different and with a completely different marketing name. In July, a leak suggested the handset would have just one camera on its back, which seems unfeasible given the price.
