AMD and Intel have established the x86 Ecosystem Advisory. They will collaborate with Google, Microsoft, HP, Lenovo, and several other IT giants to explore the x86 architecture roadmap. By utilizing the maximum potential of x86 chips, the committee will help all the involved brands develop products that meet the increasing needs of modern consumers.
Intel and AMD state that x86 architecture has been the backbone of modern computing, serving as a reliable platform for advanced microprocessors. AI, 3D packaging, and dynamic workloads require the x86 ecosystem to be expanded to meet these needs.
Companies will be able to develop software and hardware products that are suitable for generative AI, cloud computing, and other modern technologies with the help of the x86 Ecosystem Advisory Group.
Intel and AMD have teamed up before. Both companies have partnered in the past to develop PCI, PCIe, ACPI, and USB interfaces despite being archrivals on the computer chip market.
It will be led by Intel and AMD. Microsoft, Google, Meta, Dell, HP, Lenovo, Broadcom, Oracle, and Red Hat are also notable partners. The x86 architecture is fundamental to the microprocessor ecosystem, so more companies are expected to join the committee.
Both AMD and Intel are bracing for tough competition from ARM-based processors. Apple introduced its M-silicon chips based on ARM in 2020, replacing a decade-old partnership with Intel. For Windows laptops, Qualcomm also offers Snapdragon X Plus/Elite processors.
Both Intel and AMD have not announced any plans to release ARM-based CPUs.The x86 architecture remains the same for both desktop and laptop processors made by both chipmakers.
