Earlier yesterday, Nothing launched its new Nothing Ear (open) TWS earphone. Along with performance improvements and some visual refinements, the company is also working to integrate AI into its operating system.

Nothing founder Carl Pei and Yuri Levin, Software Product Design Lead at Nothing, showcased the features of Nothing OS 3.0 on the company’s YouTube channel. Earlier this year, a teaser of the new operating system was released.

Features:

As part of Nothing OS 3.0, several new changes will be made to the Android skin, including a long-awaited first-party “Nothing Gallery” app.

It can be really difficult to find the app you want when you have so many apps, like a huge canvas of app icons. Nothing OS 3.0 solves this problem by allowing you to pin apps to the top. If you want your apps to be visible at all times, this is very useful.

Smart Drawer App does not go one step further with AI integration. All your apps can be sorted into different categories. Nothing claims that AI analyzes the usage data of various apps and surfaces the right apps for you at the right time based on the data. Users can also keep track of time with a new countdown widget.

As part of the visual refinements, the Quick Settings panel and lock screen clock have been redesigned. With the new brightness slider button, auto brightness is now integrated. In addition, there’s a new dot animation that reportedly uses a new animation engine to provide smoother and more dynamic visual effects. There are fingerprint animations, charging animations, etc.

The weather app icon is also redesigned with a dot matrix style, which feels more in line with the overall design aesthetic.

The open beta for Nothing OS 3.0 will begin in October and the stable release will begin in December 2024. A list of devices and a timeline for the rollout should be available soon.
