iOS 18 was announced at Apple’s 2024 Worldwide Developers Conference in June. iPhone models are finally receiving the latest version of iOS. Starting September 20, the iPhone 16 series devices will come preloaded with iOS 18.
Apple Intelligence:
Apple’s latest iOS version offers several AI features collectively referred to as Apple Intelligence. To enhance the user experience, AI features are being integrated into system apps.
As an example, iOS 18 offers new ways to write, generate images, and interact with Siri. With AI models integrated into apps like Mail and Notes, users can rewrite, proofread, and summarize text. Image Playground is another app that can generate images based on simple text prompts.
Siri has become smarter and more contextually aware since Apple Intelligence was integrated. Users can now use it to edit photos and manage files on their behalf. ChatGPT handles more complex tasks, while Apple prefers on-device processing to prioritize user privacy.
Apple’s implementation of these features is beneficial for future development, as we’ve already seen them in Google’s Pixel and Samsung’s Galaxy flagships, both powered by Google AI.
Other Features:
Additionally, iOS 18 offers customization features such as the ability to rearrange apps and widgets. Users can resize controls and create multiple screens for different functions with the new Control Centre.
iPhone 14 and newer models now support satellite messaging, which allows text communication without a cellular or Wi-Fi connection.
