There have been some unusual developments in Google’s hardware division this year. Along with moving its launch timeline forward, it also released four new phones instead of two in its latest Pixel lineup. This year’s Android 15 release wasn’t ready yet because the Google Pixel 9 series was released two months ahead of schedule. According to my sources, Google may not even release Android 15 next month for Pixel phones.
The source code for Google’s Pixel devices is typically released around the same time as major Android updates. The Pixel hardware team has traditionally been separate from the AOSP team within Google, but as of this year, this separation has disappeared.
Pixel 9 owners are probably waiting for the new software version, and are wondering when it will be available officially now that the phone has been released.
It hasn’t been confirmed by Google, but a new rumour suggests Android 15 won’t release until October. There is, however, some distinction to be made here. Android 15 is being rolled out officially over the air, and then the Android Open Source Project version is released. Usually along with or just before the official OTA release.
The OTA isn’t coming until October, according to Android Authority’s Mishaal Rahman. There’s also a chance that it won’t be released until the middle of October. Google is still over a month away from pushing the software update, if that’s the case.
Source Code release:
Rahman claims that Android 15 source code may be released as early as September 3. The software will be available relatively soon to developers and manufacturers. Android 15’s beta is not intended for end users, but those interested in checking out the latest version can still install it. It doesn’t matter if they are participating in the beta program or not. There are still more than a few weeks to go for anyone else.
