In 2017, Apple began manufacturing iPhones in India with the iPhone SE. Apple has since manufactured the iPhone 12, iPhone 13, iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, and iPhone 15 in India. However, Apple has never manufactured Pro variants in the country. Now, that’s about to change.

In a first for Apple’s Pro series iPhones outside of China, the upcoming iPhone 16 Pro series will be manufactured in India. Bloomberg reports that Foxconn India will begin manufacturing the upcoming iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max within weeks of their launch.

According to a report from earlier this year, India accounts for 14% of total iPhone production. Apple has been assembling iPhones in India for seven years. It is expected that this figure will rise to 25% by the end of next year. It is also rumoured that Apple will produce iPhone 17 exclusively in India.

Pegatron Corp.’s India unit and the Tata Group could also begin making the Pro versions soon, the people said. Higher-end models usually have bigger batteries, better cameras, and titanium bodies, and they require more specialized production lines.

We can expect the price drop once the iPhone 16 Pro assembled models in India are launched.
