Even though Apple hasn’t announced the iPhone 16 lineup yet, we’ve already heard quite a bit about the iPhone 17 lineup, which is likely to be introduced in September. Apple analyst Jeff Pu said all four iPhone 17 models are expected to include a 24-megapixel front-facing camera.

Today, Pu shared a chart for investment bank Haitong, which MacRumors obtained, that indicates each iPhone 17 model, including the iPhone 17 Slim, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max, will feature a 24-megapixel front camera with six plastic lenses. All iPhone 15 models are equipped with a 12-megapixel front camera with five plastic lenses.

Ming-Chi Kuo also claimed in January that at least one iPhone 17 model would be equipped with a 24-megapixel front camera with a six-piece lens, so this upgrade has now been rumoured by multiple sources, making it more likely. This change will “significantly improve the quality of the image,” according to Kuo.

When photos are captured with a 24-megapixel resolution, they can maintain their quality even when cropped to a greater extent, which allows for greater post-processing flexibility. There is also the possibility that a six-piece lens would slightly improve image quality since each element is designed to correct for various aberrations and distortions, resulting in clearer, more accurate images.

Apple is expected to release its iPhone 17 models in September 2025, so it will still be over a year before they become available. As Apple develops and prototypes products well before release, rumours about the two-generation-away iPhone always begin quite early.
