Samsung will unveil the Galaxy Z Fold6 at its Galaxy Unpacked event on July 10th. It has been reported, however, that the Fold6 will come in a slimmer, higher-end variant. According to a new report, that device may not appear next week.
Samsung is working on a slimmer version of the Z Fold 6, with a larger screen, according to TheElec. Despite the standard Z Fold 6’s rumoured 6.3-inch and 7.6-inch screens, the report claims the Z Fold6 Slim will feature an expansive 8-inch internal display.
According to reports, the Z Fold6 Slim will launch in the fourth quarter of 2024 with a limited production run of 400,000 to 500,000 devices. A limited number of markets are expected to be available, with China being one of them.
The goal of Samsung seems to be to demonstrate the ability to create a thinner phone than its current models. It has been reported that achieving this slimmer profile comes at the cost of S Pen support since the digitizer required for stylus use has been removed.
TheElec mentions higher-end specs for this variant, but specifics aren’t disclosed. According to previous rumours, Galaxy Z Fold6 Slim may have an upgraded camera. The report does not confirm this, however.
Samsung’s supply chain source indicates that development for the slimmer Z Fold 6 began in Q1 2024. It follows from this information that Samsung’s high-end phones usually take a year to develop, so a delayed launch is expected.
It is expected that the Z Fold6 Slim will be more expensive than its standard counterpart due to its larger screen and potentially more powerful specs. While Samsung’s Z Fold6 caters to a broader market, its premium foldable experience targets a select market.
