There are purported real-life images of the Pixel 9 Pro XL surfacing on the XDA forums just weeks before Google unveils its Pixel 9 series on August 13th.
According to the leaked image, the Pixel 9 Pro XL will have 16GB Samsung LPDDR5 RAM. Previously, Pixel phones could only hold 12GB of memory.
This isn’t the first Android phone with 16GB of RAM, but what’s noteworthy is that it has only 256GB of storage. Most manufacturers pair 1TB storage with higher RAM options.
This choice might be related to the increasing demand for on-device AI capabilities. Recent Pixel iterations have heavily focused on AI, and 16GB of RAM should enable these AI features to run smoothly.
In addition to the memory bump, the Pixel 9 Pro XL will feature Samsung’s latest Exynos 5400 baseband chip. In the Pixel 8 series, it will replace the Exynos 5300.
According to Samsung, this chip supports the 3GPP Release 17 standard, enabling peak data transfer rates of 14.79Gbps. The Exynos 5400 is also rumoured to support satellite communication on Pixel 9.
There will be a 6.7-inch OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 1344 x 2992 resolution, all protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2.
Featuring three 50MP sensors around the back for the primary, wide-angle, and telephoto lenses, the device will boast a triple camera setup. Up to 5x optical zoom is expected from the telephoto lens. The device will be powered by a 5050mAh battery that supports wired charging at 30W.
Google Pixel 9 & Pixel 9 Pro XL:
Earlier this month, a leaked image of the Pixel 9 revealed the device in pink. This latest render shows the same shade in a much better light. On the horizontal camera island, the shade is slightly different. Most smartphones today come in Black, Blue, or Green colours, so the Pixel 9’s Pink colour option is welcome.
As for the Pixel 9 Pro XL, it comes in a Porcelain colour, which is the same as last year’s Pixel 8 Pro. The pill-shaped island contained a periscope lens. Under the LED flash unit is also a temperature sensor.
As per leaked renders, the Pixel 9 is set to feature a boxy design with a flat frame, as opposed to last year’s Pixel 8 series. The sides of the horizontal camera bridge have been trimmed.
