HMD has been working on a Barbie-branded phone for a while now. Despite a month’s delay, it’s official – Barbie will release her phone on August 28.
In February, the company teased a new line-up of phones for July, including a pink device. There was an original plan for the Skyline and Crest models to arrive this month, but Barbie is running fashionably behind.
Barbie’s phone will be a flip phone, which suggests that it will run S30+ or KaiOS. HMD has been positioning it as a “digital detox” phone that won’t let you scroll through social media.
The company is also working on a Detox Mode for the Skyline, so that’s one of its calling cards. We expect something similar to the Nokia 2780 Flip, for example, since Android-powered flip phones (the non-folding kind) are exceedingly rare.
In the image shared on X, the Barbie phone appears very pink – a color that is becoming something of a signature for HMD after the Neon Pink Skyline.
