The Pixel 9 series has been revealed in real-life images. The phones even had internal shots. Soon, Google will introduce the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold.
There had already been a leak of a hands-on image of the pink Pixel 9. A team from Android Authority has now discovered photos of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold as well.
Design:
There is a square camera array on the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. According to internal images, it has a triple-camera setup. The selfie camera on the outer display is centred, while the one on the inner display is in the top right corner.
The Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro had already been spotted in earlier leaks. NCC photos provide a comprehensive view of all phones from every angle, however. Similar to Apple’s iPhone Pro lineup, the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL feature a matte finish on the back, unlike previous Pixel models. These phones also look like iPhones because of their boxy design. There seems to be a shift away from rounded design language among phone manufacturers.
We’ve also learned that the charging speed might increase. The Pixel 9 Pro XL could have 35W charging. Even though it’s not much better than the Pixel 8 Pro with 30W charging, it’s better than the Chinese-made phones. Battery capacities are also available. Firstly, let’s take a look at the rest of the Pixel 9 series.
Battery details:
Compared to the previous series, the Pixel 9 series seems to have similar battery capacities. The Pixel 9 has a 4558 mAh battery, while the Pixel 8 has a 4485 mAh battery. Further, the Pixel 9 Pro packs a 4558 mAh battery whereas the Pixel 9 Pro XL with massive 4942 mAh battery. Lastly, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold packs a 4560 mAh battery.
Even though it’s not a huge difference, it confirms that the bigger battery is responsible for the slight increase in size. It’s important to note that the typical battery capacity isn’t what’s on marketing materials, but you can check the battery capacity and compare it with the battery of other devices.
Camera:
This year, Google is updating almost all sensors in the Pixel phones. Starting with the regular Pixel 9, Google is replacing the old Sony IMX386 ultrawide lens with a brand-new Sony IMX858 lens. Compared to the old sensor (1/2.8″), the new IMX858 (1/2.51″) should be much more versatile and useful in low-light conditions.
Despite remaining the same, Google is tweaking the front-facing camera as well as the primary sensor (Samsung GNK). As with last year’s Pixel 8 Pro, the Pixel 9 has an autofocus-enabled front-facing camera, making it easier to use and sharper in more scenarios. While the Pixel 8’s fixed-focus selfie camera is generally fine, it can result in blurry photos occasionally.
Both Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL will have the same camera setup. The Sony IMX858 sensor (the one used in the Pixel 9) has become a big focus for Google this year. This model is used for all sensors except the primary, including the front-facing camera.
Pixel 9:
The Google Pixel 9 will ship with the same 50MP Samsung GNK main sensor with OIS. It is coupled with the new 50MP Sony IMX858 Ultra-wide sensor with LED flash. Sadly, the Pixel 9 still ships with the same 10.5MP Samsung 3J1 sensor but gets AF support.
Pixel 9 Pro & Pro XL:
Pixel 9 Pro & Pro XL also features the same 50MP Samsung GNK main sensor with OIS along with the same 50MP Sony IMX858 Ultra-wide sensor. It comes with a new 50MP Sony IMX858 telephoto lens with OIS. Lastly, there is also a massive 50MP Sony IMX858 sensor on the front for a selfie shooter.
Pixel 9 Pro Fold camera specs:
There will also be some changes to the Pixel 9 Pro Fold this year. Instead of the old Sony IMX386 (1/2.8″), the ultrawide camera is a 12MP Samsung 3LU (1/3.2”). Previously, Samsung 3J1 and Sony IMX355 selfie cameras were used, but the 10MP Samsung 3K1 (1/3.94″) replaced them.
There is the same 10.5MP telephoto lens with OIS and 48MP Sony IMX787 main sensor.
