The Sony Xperia VII’s cameras were first revealed by a tipster from China. It’s still interesting to see what Sony could be up to with its next-generation Xperia, even though the tipster has no solid track record of prior leaks.

There are reports that Sony wants to separate the telephoto lens from the main and ultrawide cameras on the Xperia 1. It is believed that this move will free up space inside the device for a 1/2.3-inch telephoto sensor instead of a 1/3.5″ sensor on the Xperia 1 VI. According to reports, the zoom camera will cover a focal range of 70-200mm.

Just like the current Xperia 1 VI, the main camera will have a 1/1.3″ sensor size, while the ultrawide will also have a 1/2.3″ sensor. On the Xperia 1 VII, Sony is expected to use two-layer transistor pixels for all three cameras.

Also, according to the new report, Sony won’t launch a new Xperia 5 VI this year, and the series may be discontinued altogether, leaving only Xperia 1s as high-end smartphones from the company.
