Nothing OS 3.0, the next major update for the Nothing Phone, should be released around the same time as the Nothing Phone (2a) Community Edition. Nothing Phone (2a) will include hardware changes designed by the fan base. In addition to wallpaper, public-created packaging will be included on the handset. Additionally, the Nothing Community will help market the phone.

Nothing’s founder and CEO Carl Pei shared some images showing some new features in Nothing OS 3.0. The new features include a lock screen animation, as well as interactive dots in Quick Settings. The images were posted by Pei on his “X” account.

According to Pei, Nothing users can customize their lock screens in three different ways. In the Default look, the time, day, and date are displayed. It displays the time in dots and three widgets on the screen, the weather, a shortcut for quick actions, and the date. Expanded Widget Area is the third lock screen customization. An analog clock with a large date tile, quick actions, weather, and contact widgets is shown in this example.

Also, Pei shared details about the Interactive Dot Animation, which will have three layers: input image, live interaction, and output.

There will be a new native gallery and community app in Nothing OS 3.0. There will be an official announcement in September. Earlier this year, the company released Nothing OS 2.0. It is available for the Nothing Phones (1), (2), and (2a).
