At WWDC 2024, Apple introduced Apple Intelligence for its flagship platforms-the iPhone, iPad, and MacBook. Apple is launching a range of AI-powered features under this umbrella term.
New reports suggest that these features will not be included in iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia, which are scheduled to be released later this year. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports some of these features won’t arrive until 2025, including Siri upgrades. The company appears to be staggered in releasing these new GenAI features, which would be a first for the company.
According to Mark Gurman’s weekly newsletter Power On, Apple will slowly roll out its new AI features to avoid the pitfalls other AI models face. Analysts predict the features won’t be available until later this summer, so they won’t be included in its first beta releases.
When iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia are released this fall, some of these features will only be available as a preview. At WWDC, Apple unveils features that will be released in the fall. Unlike previous releases, Apple Intelligence is not expected to follow a strict release schedule. Apple will be able to manage its resources better, not overwhelm its staff, and not compromise its product.
The report also mentions that Apple will take its time to resolve the problem of nonsensical AI responses. As part of Apple Intelligence, Apple is also taking time to build its cloud infrastructure. By doing this, the servers will be able to handle the surge in users without crashing.
According to Gurman, a subset of Apple Intelligence’s AI features won’t launch until 2025. Siri is capable of finding things based on context and has other AI-related features like on-screen awareness. Also, ChatGPT integration will not be ready until end of 2024.
