Galaxy Z Fold6 and Z Flip6 are likely to emerge from their recent rut in 2024. Some insiders expect budget-friendly FE versions of the Fold6 and others a super-premium Fold6 Ultra. Adding to the confusion, Ross Young today introduced an entirely new name to the mix.
Generally, reliable and experienced display industry analysts report that Samsung is currently developing a larger foldable than the Galaxy Z Fold6 without a pen input.
If Young’s assumption is correct, the Galaxy Z Fold6 Slim will probably be priced similarly to the Fold6. Apple is rumored to be preparing an iPhone 17 Slim model for release in 2025, and if Young’s assumption is correct, the price will be similar to the Fold6.
According to previous reports, the “regular” Fold6 will retain the 7.6-inch size of its predecessor’s primary display but increase its cover screen slightly from 6.2 to 6.3 inches. In addition to its weight reduction from 253 to 239 grams, the Galaxy Z Fold6 could also be significantly thinner when folded and unfolded than its predecessor.
While it’s unlikely that the “Fold 6 Slim” would further reduce the non-Slim Fold 6’s 12.1mm thickness, expanding the 7.6-inch and 6.3-inch screens does seem possible. That would greatly help Samsung compete against giants such as the OnePlus Open and Vivo X Fold 3 Pro, if it materialized.
The million-dollar question, our friends, remains unanswered for now, although Ross Young doesn’t rule out the possibility that both Fold6 Slim and Fold6 Ultra are the same device.
