Qualcomm has announced its latest chipset, the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3. With the Snapdragon 8 series, the platform shares its core CPU and on-device AI capabilities with the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3.
Compared with its predecessor, the new chip promises 15% faster CPU and 45% faster Adreno GPU, along with a 5% reduction in power consumption.
It is the first Snapdragon 7-series chip to feature on-device generative AI. This program supports a wide range of large language models and large vision models, such as Baichuan-7B, Llama 2, Gemini Nano, and Zhipu ChatGLM.
Using AI, virtual assistants should become more useful and content will be produced more efficiently than ever before. Multilingual translations and transcriptions should make entertainment accessible to everyone.
With a 4nm process technology, the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 features a 2.8 GHz Cortex-X4 core. Also, there are 4 performance cores (likely A720) running at 2.6GHz and 3 efficiency units (Cortex-A520) running at 1.9GHz.
The display supports 4K @ 60 Hz and QHD+ @ 120 Hz, with variable refresh rates ranging from 240 Hz to 1 Hz. Up to 24 GB of LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage are supported.
Snapdragon X63 5G modem with FastConnect 7800 mobile connectivity system and 3GPP Release 17 5G. With the chip, phones with older cellular standards will still be able to work on older cellular networks with downlink speeds of up to 4.2 Gbps.
