Every year, Sony releases a new version of its Xperia 1, 10, and 5 series phones. We expect the Xperia 10 VI and Xperia 1 VI to debut sometime in May. Sony is discontinuing the Xperia 5 series, so there is no likelihood that the Xperia 5 VI will be released. A couple of months after the release of the Xperia 1 and Xperia 10 series devices, Sony released the two last iterations of the Xperia 5 series in September. It’s still possible for the company to reconsider its decision.
In one of his recent Weibo posts, tipster Zacbucks noted “Xperia 5 series, R.I.P 2024.”. This claim was not accompanied by any explanation.
In September of last year, the predecessor Xperia 5 V was released in Europe. There was no availability of this phone in the US. This year, Sony will not carry the Xperia 5 V in the North American market. Sony wants to focus on its flagship Xperia 1 V.” Is Sony further reserving its resources and attention for the Xperia 1 series? If they decide to discontinue the Xperia 5 series entirely, only time will tell.
The Xperia 1 VI is said to ditch the tall cinematic 21:9 aspect ratio in favor of 19.5:9. Therefore, it should be shorter and wider than its predecessor, as shown in the concept images above. It seems this is another Sony-only thing that hasn’t worked out, so if you were wondering when it would be gone, it appears to be coming to an end soon.
