Mark Gurman writes in today’s Bloomberg Power On newsletter that iOS 18 will include updates to the iPhone home screen. It is unclear what changes will be made to the home screen in iOS 18, but he does describe it as being “more customizable”. According to MacRumors, iPhone users will be able to place app icons freely on the grid, making gaps on the screen possible for the first time.
It appears that Apple believes iOS 18 will be its biggest update ever. With AI-powered features integrated across the operating system, AI will be a key focus. Using Google’s Gemini, Apple may also integrate chatbot functionality.
Apple wants to ‘catch up’ with other tech giants and present a coherent AI strategy. As Gurman points out, iOS 18 will include an array of artificial intelligence features that will “help you manage your daily life”.
The company has previously been reported to be working on Siri improvements. There is also AI-generated playlists for Apple Music, AI documents for iWork, and smarter reply suggestions for Messages.
Apple will announce iOS 18 at WWDC in June alongside iPadOS 18, watchOS 11, visionOS 2, and macOS 10. The first developer betas will be released in June. With a public release in September, perhaps along with the new iPhone 16 lineup.
