In collaboration with Qualcomm, Reliance Jio plans to launch an affordable 5G smartphone. According to reports, the phone will be priced under Rs 10,000, which would be pretty interesting given that there aren’t many entry-level 5G devices on the market.
A new report from Money Control claims that Qualcomm’s upcoming smartphone will offer a complete 5G experience at a low price. Qualcomm’s Senior Vice President and General Manager of Handsets, Chris Patrick, emphasized the importance of making the transition from 4G to 5G as seamless as possible for Indian consumers.
Based on GSMA data, Qualcomm executives believe affordable 5G smartphones will reach as many as 2.8 billion people worldwide, including India. To make 5G technology practical for consumers, Qualcomm is actively working with developers.
To support gigabit speeds on a 5G network, a dedicated low-cost customized processor based on SA-2Rx capability will be used. However, Jio’s dirt-cheap 4G plans in India have disrupted the network space successfully, and its entry-level 5G phone could do the same. Jio has also launched a budget laptop for Rs 14,700.
