By announcing the Google Pixel Fold in May 2023, Google entered the foldable phone market last year. It is expected that the Pixel Fold 2 will be unveiled this year. The Android Authority has revealed the device’s key specifications. Additionally, it has revealed the timeframe for its launch.
Design:
There has always been a “Google” design to Google’s phones; a weird design, but a good weird. It was a case for the original Pixel Fold. On the back of the phone, there is a candy bar-style camera bump.
An exclusive leak from Android Authority suggests the Pixel Fold 2 will have a new design. We can see a radically different camera bump on the back of the phone in the image below. This will be the first Pixel phone with a left-mounted camera bump since the Pixel 5A in 2021 if the leak is true. On the top left of the phone, it appears that the cameras will be arranged in a square pattern.
The image shows four sensors along with an LED flash. The top two lenses appear to be the main camera and ultra-wide lens. There is a possibility that the two lenses at the bottom are telephoto and periscopic zoom lenses. We cannot confirm this information officially, so this is just speculation.
Although the Pixel Fold 2 seems a bit more slender on each side than the Pixel Fold 1. Each half will have the same aspect ratio as a standard smartphone.
Specs:
It was reported by an anonymous source that Google has been testing the Pixel Fold 2 internally for a few months. Pixel Fold 2 prototypes are powered by a chipset codenamed “zumapro.” The Tensor G3 chip that powers Pixel 8 has the codename “zuma.” Therefore, it would seem that the next-generation foldable would be powered by the Tensor G4. Tensor G2 is the chip featured in the original Pixel Fold.
Samsung will manufacture the Tensor G4 with Cortex-X4, A720, and A520 CPU cores. The Pixel Fold has 12 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 256 GB of UFS 3.1 storage, while the Pixel Fold 2 has 16 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 256 GB of UFS 4.0 storage. Additionally, it may include the rumored Pixel AI assistant.
According to the report, the Pixel Fold 2 is currently undergoing Engineering Validation Tests (EVT). The mass production phase could be several months away. The Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro are expected to be unveiled by Google in October. It is expected that both phones will feature Tensor G4 processors. The Pixel Fold 2 may also launch alongside the Pixel 9 series now that it is said to have the same chip.
