In 2025, Apple might upgrade its budget-friendly iPhone SE line with an OLED display, according to The Elec. With this change, Apple would bring its SE in line with its more premium models that use LCD technology.
In comparison to LCD displays, OLED displays offer brighter colors, deeper blacks, and better overall image quality. Apple seems to be focused on keeping costs low for the iPhone SE 4 despite this. According to reports, Samsung and BOE are competing to supply Apple with new screens.
Due to the intense competition between suppliers, Apple may be able to maintain the SE’s affordability despite OLED panels’ higher manufacturing costs. The majority of orders may go to Samsung, rumored to have offered the lowest price.
Samsung and BOE reportedly provided quotes ranging from $30 to $40 for the low-cost model, with Samsung allegedly offering the most affordable price at $30 per unit, while BOE offers a $35 limit.
According to reports, Tienma, a Chinese display manufacturer, has offered the most expensive iPhone SE 4 component for $40. It is likely that Samsung, along with BOE, will receive the majority of the orders, given its history with Apple and its supposed lowest quote.
Apple can generate a decent margin on every iPhone SE 4 it sells at the prices quoted by each company for OLED panels that are up to one-third less than those used in the iPhone 15.
Despite not yet finalizing a production partner, Apple is reportedly seeking prices even lower than that.
According to rumors, the iPhone SE 4 is expected to launch in 2025.
