According to DigiTimes, Apple is now deciding on the design for its first foldable device.

DigiTimes claims Apple has been developing its first foldable product for at least five years, citing Taiwanese supply chain sources. The publication confirms previous rumors by stating that the foldable will be larger than an iPhone, resembling a tablet or notebook instead. As plans for mass production approach, design efforts on the device are said to be converging.

The main problem for Apple’s foldable is developing a panel that meets its quality requirements given that hinge mechanisms have become increasingly advanced in recent years. In addition, Vision Pro engineers are being moved to the foldable project due to Apple’s rumored suspension of Samsung’s foldable display panel development.

Apple does not appear to have suspended its work on foldable devices, as the company allegedly now has multiple departments in charge of different foldable product lines. In the earliest case scenario, Apple will not launch its first foldable device until 2025.
