A new report about Apple’s iPhones could be great news for those who like the plus and non-pro models. It’s about leveling the playing field between its high-end and budget-friendly iPhones. The latest iPhone models are all the rage with their 120Hz ProMotion displays, previously reserved for more expensive models.
It has been a few generations since Apple introduced its so-called ProMotion displays with 120Hz refresh rate, but the premium panels have not yet trickled down to more affordable iPhones. Several owners have complained about this for some time.
In 2025, Apple plans to introduce its premium LTPO OLED panels to the cheaper iPhones, which means the iPhone 17 and 17 Plus will be the first to get them. Apple will finally introduce an Always-on display to its cheaper models since the LTPO panel allows for granular refresh rate control, enabling ProMotion.
The industry source says it all depends on BOE. Despite Apple’s approval, the Chinese panel maker will not be able to ramp up production for the iPhone 16 series release. Further, various sources claim that BOE has difficulty meeting Apple’s strict requirements, so the iPhone 17 series seems a realistic goal.
