Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset is starting to appear in smartphones. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC is already rumored to be the next version.
Twitter user @faridofanani96 recently tweeted about the gaming performance of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chip. An early version of this chip called an engineering sample, is reported to have run Genshin Impact smoothly for 45 minutes at 1080p resolution, maintaining 60 frames per second.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is capable of handling Genshin Impact for an extended period, which is promising. The final version of the chip might perform even better, running Genshin Impact at its maximum 60fps at higher resolution.
Previous reports suggest that Apple’s M2 chip scored 10% lower in the 3DMark Wild Life Extreme Stress Test than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4’s Adreno 830 GPU. It’s impressive, especially considering the M2 is designed for larger devices like Macs.
In its 2024 smartphone chips, likely the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, Qualcomm will include its custom Oryon cores. According to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite PC, which uses the Oryon CPU, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will be a significant upgrade over the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.
MediaTek’s upcoming Dimensity 9400 SoC will compete with Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. Like the Dimensity 9300, it is expected to have a combination of three high-performance Cortex-X5 cores. Also another five Cortex-performance cores without any low-power efficiency cores.
