A new all-encompassing app is being developed by Indian Railways that aims to streamline the passenger experience by combining ticketing, train tracking, and other services that are currently distributed across multiple apps. Users will benefit from this move since it streamlines existing digital offerings.
CRIS’s new super app, developed by a senior government official, will combine various railway apps, reducing the hassle of downloading multiple applications for different services. It is intended to enhance the user experience, improve synergy, and explore monetization opportunities.
The Indian Railways apps need an overhaul based on user feedback, the official said, emphasizing the commitment to make digital services more user-friendly.
Rail Madad (complaints and suggestions), UTS (booking unreserved train tickets), and the National Train Enquiry System (real-time train status) will be included in the consolidated app. The system will also integrate specialized apps for activities like inspection reports and geo-location-based track asset inspections.
The unified platform could also include standalone apps such as IRCTC Rail Connect (train ticket booking and cancellation), IRCTC eCatering Food on Track (food delivery to train seats), and IRCTC Air (flight ticket booking).
Over a three-year period, the national transporter will spend around Rs 90 crore developing and operating the super app. Over 100 million people have downloaded IRCTC Rail Connect, the most popular of the existing railway apps for booking reserved category tickets. UTS caters to platform tickets as well as season passes with over 10 million downloads.
