An innovative handheld gadget was unveiled by Rabbit company at CES 2024: the Rabbit R1. With its compact, square design and red-orange color, the Rabbit R1 stands out as the company’s debut product.

Specs:

In terms of hardware, the device is fairly straightforward. With a 2.88-inch touchscreen and rounded corners, Teenage Engineering designed this device. The device features a 2.3GHz MediaTek processor, 4GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage. It includes a rotatable camera “eye” that works as a selfie or rear camera, and its battery can last all day.

In addition, the Rabbit R1 features a large scroll wheel and a side button for initiating calls. Although it has a SIM card slot, it lacks full smartphone functionality despite having a pair of far-field microphones for voice input.

AI features:

Its primary purpose is to connect users with their smartphones, such as iPhones. This device and its operating system, Rabbit OS, simplify user interaction with applications. Atmosic’s proprietary Large Action Model (LAM), similar to those used in chatbots such as ChatGPT, manages tasks instead of users having to navigate through apps.

It is particularly capable of understanding and executing commands based on natural voice inputs. Using the Rabbit R1, a user can simply voice a need, such as “I need a ride to the airport,” and the Rabbit R1 will handle the rest, like activating the Uber app and arranging the ride.

Training the Rabbit R1 model is consistent across various categories of tasks, such as making restaurant reservations, booking airline tickets, adding songs to Spotify playlists, etc. A wide range of functions and services are supported by the model’s ability to understand and execute voice commands. It differs from traditional user interactions where an app is opened before any action is performed.

Rather than independently performing tasks, Rabbit’s R1 seems to follow Humane’s Ai Pin’s approach of controlling existing user applications via AI.

Pricing:

With a price of $199 (Rs.16,600/-), it is an affordable alternative to Humane’s products. Pre-orders for the Rabbit R1 are currently available, with shipping expected to begin in March.
