In the first half of 2024, Apple is expected to upgrade its iPad lineup. In addition to the M3 chipset, Apple’s upcoming iPad Pro is expected to feature OLED screens. According to Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), Apple’s new iPad Pro will feature LTPO-based OLED panels.
Moreover, he mentions that the upcoming iPad Pro will be the first tablet in the world with tandem stack displays. Additionally, the LTPO panel will reduce the iPad’s power consumption.
OLED screens have not yet been used by Apple on its iPads. The new iPad Pro 6th generation comes with a mini-LED display, but it is not as good as a true OLED panel. The switch to OLED panels on the iPad Pro is expected in 2024, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman and Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
Ross Young posted on Twitter that Apple will introduce LTPO OLED screens on the iPad Pro. It is an enhanced version of OLED known as low-temperature polycrystalline oxide. One of the biggest advantages of LTPO is its native support for adaptive refresh rate.
The LTPO panel will set the refresh rate to 1Hz when viewing static images. When you scroll, it will instantly switch to 120Hz. The battery life of iPads will be greatly improved.
Secondly, tandem stack display technology will replace single-layer OLEDs with multiple layers of LEDs. By doing so, the display will be more durable, and the panel’s thickness will be reduced. Additionally, it reduces the chances of screen burns.
It will be the first tablet to feature this display technology, the upcoming iPad Pro. High-end TV sets usually have tandem stack panels. The iPad Pro will also be the thinnest OLED tablet, according to Ross Young.
