Despite using Dynamic Island’s pill-shaped cutout for the last two iPhone Pro models, Apple is aiming for an “all-screen” iPhone that has no physical display cutouts in the future. According to a report by Korean news outlet TheElec, the first iPhone with an Under Display Camera (UDC) won’t launch until after 2026 at the earliest.
UD cameras featuring LG Innotek’s proprietary freeform optic lens system are now in “advanced development”. As a result of this new development, UD cameras will have optimal light passthrough for higher image quality. It is reported that Apple received UDC samples from its suppliers but deemed them unsatisfactory.
Apple is expected to transition to UD Face ID by 2025, according to Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC). The first all-screen iPhone with a UD camera and Face ID is expected to launch in 2027.
