Bloomberg reports that Apple Watch will receive a major upgrade in 2024. It is rumored that Apple will launch its tenth-anniversary edition of the Apple Watch next year. In Mark Gurman’s latest Power On newsletter, he reports that the upcoming Apple Watch will have advanced health features. It is noteworthy that Gurman has already claimed that the 10th-anniversary Apple Watch will be the biggest redesign ever. With the new Apple Watch, the tipster has detailed some new advanced features.
New features on Apple Watch:
According to Bloomberg analysts, Apple Watch redesign details have already been revealed in the past. Gurman has revealed more details about new health features on the upcoming Apple Watch. According to Gurman, only the standard Apple Watch will be redesigned and will come with new features. In 2026, Watch Ultra 3 is expected to receive a Micro LED display, which will be the next major upgrade.
Gurman believes that Apple Watches are due for an upgrade, and at least one model will feature a new design. As an added benefit, Apple will introduce a couple of new health features that will enhance the benefits of owning an Apple Watch. According to Gurman, these features will include hypertension tracking and sleep apnea detection. Gurman expects Apple’s business model to be based on “inventing the ability to take a blood pressure reading from the wrist.”
Detecting hypertension and sleep apnea will be possible with the next-generation Apple Watch, claims the tipster. In layman’s terms, hypertension is high blood pressure, which can lead to serious heart disease. A sleep apnea disorder causes the user’s breathing to repeatedly stop and start as he or she sleeps.
These diseases can both be lifelong and require medical attention. Adding the ability to detect these illnesses to the next-generation watch will make it the biggest upgrade yet. In Gurman’s newsletter, he did not mention blood sugar monitoring coming to the Apple Watch.
The new design will replace the current lug and release button clasp mechanism with a magnetic clasp. In addition to making it easier to swap bands, it will also make the Apple Watch thinner.
Apple Watch Ultra 3:
Apple plans to introduce a MicroLED display on the next version of the Watch Ultra, according to Taiwanese research firm TrendForce. On current models, this will replace the OLED panel. As with the second-generation Watch Ultra, the third-generation Watch Ultra will also have a larger screen measuring 2.12 inches instead of 1.91 inches.
Compared to OLED displays, microLED displays are thinner, lighter, and more power-efficient. MicroLED displays are challenging to produce due to a low yield rate. As a result, TrendForce estimates that the cost of the panel will increase by 2.5-3 times compared to OLED. According to reports, Apple is working with OSRAM and LG Display on the Watch Ultra’s MicroLED screen.
It is anticipated that the Apple Watch Ultra with MicroLED display will arrive in 2026, which is a long time from now. Apple may integrate a MicroLED display on its smartwatches next year or in 2025, according to several industry analysts.
