At the Wonderlust event earlier this year, Apple introduced the iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPhone 15 Pro. With a Tetraprism zoom lens design, the top-of-the-line model could achieve up to 5x optical zoom. Since the tetraprism telephoto lens was significantly larger than the smaller 15 Pro, it couldn’t be used on it.
According to Ming-Chi Kuo and The Elec, Apple will equip both iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max with advanced telephoto lenses next year. According to MacRumors, their sources have also confirmed the rumor.
There is a tetraprism telephoto lens on the iPhone 15 Pro Max, but not on the smaller iPhone 15 Pro. Due to its size, the tetraprism telephoto lens would not fit into the smaller Pro variant’s 6.1-inch frame. According to the latest report, both iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max will feature a tetraprism telephoto lens next year. If you want all the features of the Pro model without all the bulk, this is good news for you.
MacRumors reports that Apple will increase the overall dimensions of the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max. Apple plans to increase the iPhone 16 Pro’s size from 6.1 inches to 6.3 inches and the iPhone 16 Pro Max’s size from 6.7 inches to 6.9 inches. Due to this increase in size, Apple will also be able to fit the new tetraprism telephoto camera in the 16 Pro model.
MacRumors claims to have seen internal Apple documentation that supports this claim. The 16 Pro’s camera module appears to be similar to the one on the iPhone 15 Pro Max, according to the documents. In the internal documents of the iPhone 16 Pro, the tetraprism components can be easily identified at a glance, according to MacRumors.
