There have already been plenty of iPhone 16 rumors, but wait – today even those are being outdone by the iPhone 17 Pro Max. That’s right, 17. It will launch in the fall of 2025.
According to Jeff Pu, an analyst who covers companies in Apple’s supply chain, this model will feature a 48 MP telephoto camera that will somehow be optimized for the Vision Pro headset. Unfortunately, he doesn’t go into any detail about that optimization. Starting in iOS 17.2, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max can record spatial video with 3D depth for playback on the Vision Pro.
Due to the iPhone 16 Pro’s 48 MP ultrawide camera, as well as the iPhone 15 Pro’s 48 MP main camera, the iPhone 17 Pro/Max may be the first in Apple’s history to have triple 48 MP cameras.
All of this should, of course, be taken with a pinch of salt – we are, after all, almost two years ahead of schedule. While Apple is currently planning to do everything described here, a lot can change in such a long time frame. Now and then, things happen that force plans to change.
