Apple made a monumental shift yesterday – Lightning is now a thing of the past, while USB-C is everywhere. The AirPods Pro 2 now have the universal connector as well, but that’s not all they have to offer.
With the USB-C charging case, AirPods Pro 2 now supports 20-bit, 48 kHz Lossless Audio, but it only works with Apple Vision Pro headsets which will debut early next year. In the AirPods Pro 2, as with the Vision Pro, Apple claims an H2 chip can transmit lossless audio, but we wonder why the feature wasn’t present on the Lighting model last year.
A second notable feature of the new USB-C AirPods Pro 2 is their IP54 rating. Added dust resistance joins IPX4-rated water and sweat resistance from last year’s Lighting AirPods Pro 2. Additionally, AirPods Pro 2 now supports Adaptive Audio, Personalized Volume, and Conversation Awareness. The battery life is still rated at 6 hours of listening time and 30 hours with the case. Using USB-C, you can also reverse charge your AirPods Pro 2.
The AirPods Pro 2 with USB-C charging case still costs $249/Rs.24,900/- and comes in white only. From September 22, the buds will be available for purchase.
