It would not be wrong to assume that Google is the answer to a question about which Android smartphone brand has the longest software support. We see changes and new features on Android because Pixel smartphones are known for software updates. Samsung is, however, the correct answer to the above-mentioned question, which may even surprise you. However, if a new report is to be believed, things may change soon.
According to 9to5Google, Google might offer longer software update support for the Pixel 8. According to their sources, they received the information from one of them. There are no exact details about the situation, but it gives a sense of how things could be.
Pixel smartphones are currently offered three major OS updates and five years of security patches by Google. With the launch of the Pixel 6 series in 2021, this software update schedule became effective. For select smartphone models, many Android OEMs follow a similar timeline of up to three years.
Samsung leads the software update race with its promise of four years of major OS updates and five years of security patches. Last year, the Galaxy S22 was launched with the announcement. Select Galaxy S, Galaxy Z, and tablet models are covered. Devices included in the three-year OS upgrade cycle are excluded from this extended coverage.
Starting with the Pixel 8 series, Google might surpass Samsung’s software update promise. We do not yet know the exact details of the new software update timeline. There could be at least five major OS upgrades on Pixel smartphones if the company is looking to surpass Samsung.
