Airtel has launched Xstream AirFiber as the first 5G Fixed-Wireless Access (FWA) service in India, following the premature listing of the application last month. Reliance Jio has been defeated by it to take the title. The Jio AirFiber service was announced last year but has not yet been made available to the general public.
How it works:
With an official launch in Delhi and Mumbai, Airtel has launched the Xstream AirFiber service in the country. There is a tower-like design to the FWA device, and it offers plug-and-play functionality. Due to its WiFi 6 compatibility, customers can expect high-speed internet access. Both urban and rural Indians will be able to access high-speed internet through the device in fiber-dark areas.
With FWA, users will be able to access high-speed internet connections without using wires such as optical cables and copper lines. In order to use FWA, a customer will simply have to install a device in his home. It connects to an antenna that communicates with the nearest cell tower or base station. The FWA device is connected wirelessly to all other devices around it.
It is possible to connect up to 64 devices simultaneously with the Xstream AirFiber. Smart TVs, laptops, smartphones, tablets, and other WiFi-enabled devices can all be used in this manner.
Customers will need to download the companion Xstream AirFiber app on their smartphones. In the app, you will find all the instructions you need for the setup. To connect to the internet, users can either scan the QR code on the device or enter their WiFi details manually.
Pricing & Plans:
The 5G FWA device will require a Rs 2,500 security deposit (refundable). Under the Make in India program, the company will manufacture these devices.
Currently, Airtel offers only one 100Mbps plan with the device, but more should be added soon. The six-month plan is priced at Rs 4,435 and is priced at Rs 799 per month. Although it has not been confirmed, it seems like customers will not be able to choose the monthly plan just yet.
Airtel stores in Delhi and Mumbai sell the Xstream AirFiber device.
