Xiaomi is reportedly planning to maintain a 1-inch primary camera sensor in its next-generation flagship devices. However, the 1.33-inch sensor is still under development.
Digital Chat Station claims Nubia’s 35mm primary camera outperforms certain characteristics of a 1-inch sensor. This intriguing development suggests that Nubia’s upcoming flagship smartphone could stand out from the competition.
The Sony IMX989 1-inch sensor was first introduced in the Xiaomi 12S Ultra in late 2022, marking a significant advance in smartphone technology. Xiaomi has adopted the 1-inch sensor more extensively throughout 2023, with the Xiaomi 13 Pro and Xiaomi 13 Ultra, as well as devices from other manufacturers, including the OPPO Find X6 Pro and vivo X90 Pro+. Xiaomi currently has the highest number of models with 1-inch main camera sensors. Sony and Sharp have also integrated 1-inch sensors into their devices beyond Xiaomi.
Xiaomi’s release plans appear to deviate from its previous pattern of launching new “S” suffixed models in the latter half of the year. According to rumors, Xiaomi’s upcoming flagship could be the Xiaomi 14 series, which is expected to include three models: the Xiaomi 14, Xiaomi 14 Pro, and Xiaomi 14 Ultra. There will be separate events for each of these devices.
