By using QR codes, WhatsApp has introduced a new way to transfer chat history between old and new phones. With WhatsApp’s new feature, users can migrate their WhatsApp data seamlessly between iOS and Android devices.
In order to initiate the transfer, both devices must be powered on and connected to the same Wi-Fi network. In order to transfer chats from the old phone to the new one, users must navigate to WhatsApp’s Settings and select Chats and Chat Transfer. The new phone will be able to scan the QR code generated by this process to complete the transfer.
WhatsApp’s local data transfer method provides enhanced security compared to existing third-party solutions. It ensures a safe and private migration because encrypted data is shared exclusively over the local network between the two devices.
To facilitate data transfer between devices running the same operating system, WhatsApp previously relied on cloud backups. This is the company’s first step in offering a streamlined solution for such migrations.
Migration between iOS and Android devices is already supported by WhatsApp, but the existing methods are slightly more complicated than QR code scanning.
WhatsApp offers multi-device functionality as well as data transfer, allowing users to sync messages across various devices using a single phone number. Recently, the company expanded this feature to support multiple phones, providing even greater convenience and flexibility.
