Although the iPhone 15 family hasn’t even been released yet, we’re already talking about its successors. It is expected that the iPhone 16 Pro Max will be released in September 2024. According to prolific (and usually reliable) leakster Digital Chat Station out of China, this device has a unique feature.
It is expected that the iPhone 16 Pro Max will feature a “Super Telephoto” periscope zoom camera. Since the current iPhone 14 Pro Max can only manage 77mm on its zoom snapper, this designation appears to refer to cameras with focal lengths over 300mm.
There have been rumors that the iPhone 15 Pro Max will debut a periscope, and the iPhone 16 Pro will also have a periscope, but it won’t be a “Super Telephoto” one. In other words, the iPhone 16 Pro will get the iPhone 15 Pro Max’s periscope, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max will have a more advanced system.
Often used in sports and wildlife photography, super telephoto cameras can also be used for portraits, provided that the photographer is sufficiently distant from the subject.
According to the same source, the iPhone 16 Pro Max’s main camera will have a 12% larger sensor (1/1.14″) than the iPhone 14 Pro Max (1/1.28). In terms of hardware, the iPhone 15 Pro Max is expected to remain the same as its predecessor.
