Among the latest rumors surrounding Samsung’s upcoming flagship smartphones, it has been reported that the Galaxy S24 Ultra will feature a significant camera upgrade. Samsung plans to enhance the zoom capabilities of the Galaxy S24 Ultra by adding a 5x optical zoom, according to GalaxyClub.
As part of this improvement, Samsung is reportedly considering eliminating the current 3x telephoto sensor, which is currently paired with a 10x periscope lens. It could pave the way for a more advanced zoom system than the dual zoom sensor setup introduced with the Galaxy S21 Ultra.
As Samsung’s S-series smartphones have evolved, its camera technology has become more sophisticated. With its 48MP telephoto lens with 4x optical zoom, the Galaxy S20 Ultra, for example, introduced a 100x digital zoom camera. Later, the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra offered a 12MP telephoto lens with a 5x optical zoom and a 50x space zoom.
Samsung has equipped the Galaxy S21 Ultra, Galaxy S22 Ultra, and Galaxy S23 Ultra with two telephoto sensors capable of 10MP each. With this setup, you could get 3x and 10x optical zoom, while the maximum Space Zoom was 100x until the S23 Ultra was released.
According to initial rumors, the Galaxy S24 Ultra would introduce a new telephoto sensor with variable zoom, potentially comprising a three-camera system. The Galaxy S24 Ultra, however, will retain the current camera configuration, according to subsequent reports.
Samsung’s Galaxy S24 Ultra may be equipped with a 5x optical zoom camera, which is exciting news for photography enthusiasts and smartphone users alike. In keeping with Samsung’s tradition of pushing smartphone camera technology to new limits, the upcoming flagship model will feature impressive zoom capabilities.
