According to several reports, Qualcomm is working on an improved version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 2 is the tentative name of the new chip. Recently, tipster WHY LAB revealed its launch date on Weibo, while leaker Digital Chat Station shared key details.

Most of the mainstream Chinese smartphone brands launched flagship phones with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset in November and December 2022. Samsung’s Galaxy S23 series, which debuted in the first quarter of 2023, came equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy chip, which is nothing more than a customized version of the Snapdragon 8 chip.

As opposed to the regular Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy operates at 3.36GHz. As reported by tipster DCS, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 overclocked version refers to Samsung’s customized version of the processor.

According to rumours, the overclocked version is referred to as Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 2. According to the tipster, this would not be the official name of the company. It is possible that the US-based chip maker will launch it under a different name. The device will be manufactured on the 4nm process by TSMC.

According to DCS, the chip will provide superior performance, but it will not be found in many smartphones. Due to its high cost, it is not widely available. WHY LAB reports that the new chip will be officially announced next week at 3.36GHz.

An upcoming smartphone, the Red Magic 8S Pro, could be the first to include the new chip, according to a recent report. In the coming weeks, the new chip will also be included in the iQOO 11S and OnePlus Ace 2 Pro.
