Over the past year, we have seen more foldable smartphones released from a larger pool of brands, and a new rumor suggests Sony may also release a foldable phone. Apparently, the new rumor came from a South Korean forum post, but the info is murky, to say the least. Xperia Compact’s next-generation clamshell foldable will be high-end, says the source.
In Japan and overseas, the demand for the revival of the Xperia Compact, which has had high-end specs since the Xperia XZ2 Compact, is unbearable, but I have never heard even a rumor that this will be redeveloped as a foldable smartphone.
Xperia leaks from South Korea are rare, so credibility is unknown, but it might be the first leak about the display supplier.
Furthermore, there are still rumors that this tentatively named “Xperia Fold” will be a smartphone for games, but there is almost no concrete information.
According to reports, the device will come without a cover screen, which seems strange since all of the vertically folding phones so far have second screens. There’s no other specs info at the moment, so we’ll just have to wait and see if Sony is planning to bring back the Compact series.
