The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 is said to arrive earlier than expected, and even though we haven’t heard anything about it from Samsung, OnLeaks just shared a 360° video and 5K renders of the foldable smartphone, giving us our first glimpse of it.

The Galaxy Z Flip 5 is rumored to have a larger cover display. Up until today, it was unclear exactly what that would look like. Online renders of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 have surfaced.

These renders show off the new, larger cover display. This isn’t a device that’s polished like its predecessor, but rather a cover display that cuts what may seem to be a divisive figure in the device.

Galaxy Z Fold5:

At first glance, you might not be able to tell the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 apart from its predecessor Fold4. If you look closely, you can see that the LED flash placed inside the camera island on the Galaxy Z Fold4 is now located on the right side of the top camera on the Galaxy Z Fold5.

The design remains largely the same from last year, however, the hinge mechanism is the most notable change. It’s rumored that the Fold5 uses a droplet-style hinge to reduce the gap when folded and hide the display crease when unfolded.

When unfolded, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 measures 154.9 x 129.9 x 6.3 mm, and when folded, it measures 154.9 x 67.1 x 13.5 mm. When folded, the smartphone will have a thickness of 13.4 mm. Due to the new hinge mechanism, the Fold5 folds thinner when folded.

It is also claimed that the Galaxy Z Fold5’s folding screen measures 7.6″ diagonally, while its outer screen measures 6.2″, corroboration of previous rumors. Although the Fold5’s display will be thinner due to its reduced dimensions, its bezels will also be the same as the Fold4’s.

Galaxy Z Flip5:

According to the report accompanying the leak, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 will feature both a 6.7-inch internal foldable display and a 3.4-inch cover display. The circular camera cutout also stands out prominently in these renders.

The cover display is shaped somewhat like a folder icon on a PC. Due to the dual cameras, the panel needs to be trimmed a bit at the top. It’s quite a unique implementation and not one that many Samsung fans would have expected.

There is a possibility that this quirky design will bring us new software features. According to a recent report, Samsung has begun adapting its software to match the cover display’s irregular shape. It may be divisive to some people. Others may feel that Samsung should have taken a different approach.

In the coming weeks, expect to hear more about the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 and Galaxy Z Flip5.
