The Apple Watch Series 8 was powered by the S8 chip, as the S7 chip powered the Watch Series 7 and the S6 chip powered the Series 6. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports, however, that the Watch Series 9 will have a new processor instead of a rebadged version of the previous model.
The new chip may also be based on Apple’s A15 SoC, which powered the iPhone 13 series. Even though it’s unclear how different the Series 9’s chip will be from the A15, you can expect it to bring performance and efficiency improvements.
Gurman recently reported that watchOS 10 would have a “fairly extensive upgrade” with a number of notable changes. WatchOS 10 must have a big year since Apple Watch hardware needs a major upgrade to remain competitive in an increasingly competitive market, according to Gurman.
With its new chip, Apple Watch Series 9 is expected to change the smartwatch market forever. Apple Watch enthusiasts will appreciate the new chip’s performance and efficiency since it uses A15-like technology. In terms of watch performance, we can expect a significant leap forward as Apple incorporates the A15 technology into the new chip.
There is no word yet on whether Apple will reveal anything about the Watch Series 9’s chip at WWDC23, which takes place between June 5-9.
