Apple’s WWDC 2023 is just around the corner. A new version of iOS and macOS will be showcased at the June 5th event. There will also be new features and design changes revealed. Leaks are providing us with some early information even though there are more than 20 days left. Apple is reportedly planning to introduce Apple Maps Live Activity for the Lock Screen with its iOS 17 update, according to one of these leaks.
With its upcoming iOS 17 update, Apple is reportedly working on a new Apple Maps Live Activity feature for the Lock Screen. A Twitter user named @analyst941 made this claim. According to the leaker, who has shared similar leaks in the past, “Love it or hate it, Apple doesn’t care – this is the new Maps ‘Live Activity’ for Lock Screen (all iPhones). When unlocking, the transition is seamless. Swipe up to view notifications over the map. Most Lock Screen elements are visible until unlocked (except widgets, as far as I know).”
Maps users have always had to keep the app open to track their destination. By using this updated Lock Screen design, users can minimize the Apple Maps display to the size of the music player widget, and expand it to full size with a single tap. The Lock Screen Map display will not be interactive, but it will dynamically update to show users their current location and directions.
The real question is whether this feature is limited to Apple Maps.
