Qualcomm will release a new SoC for sub-premium smartphones, the SM7475 CPU. Xiaomi Group Vice President and General Manager of the Redmi brand, Lu Weibing, teased the new processor but did not provide many details. Despite this, Digital Chat Station has revealed more information about the new SoC, including the possibility that it will be an underclocked Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1.
According to Digital Chat Station, the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 1 will feature the same CPU configuration but will have lower clock speeds and a GPU that runs at 580 MHz instead of the Adreno 730 found in the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. It is expected that the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 1 will outperform MediaTek’s Dimensity 8200 despite its lower clock speeds. In order to manufacture Snapdragon 7+ Gen 1, TSMC will use its 4nm fabrication technology.
Digital Chat Station reports that multiple smartphone brands are preparing to launch smartphones powered by the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 1 chipset by the end of the month.
According to WHYLAB, a well-known tech influencer on Weibo, the upcoming Redmi Note 12 Turbo smartphone could be powered by this SoC. As the POCO F5, the device is expected to launch globally.
